| The Perfect Weekend |
[July 13th, 2009] |
|
All the weblogic is going to hell as there’s still problems Ruben has to fix, but all of my testing is going well so far. I had to login for a while Friday night and once Saturday morning, but I had fun working for some reason, so I didn’t have a problem with it. I also went out for a fabulous lunch on Friday with a fairly large group, so I owed an extra hour anyway.
Saturday was Bryan’s brother’s mini wedding. I went to Target after I got up and bought a pretty card, sunscreen and some makeup :O Yes, I my skin was clear enough for it to actually be worth it to put on makeup!
The wedding went rather smoothly I thought. The ceremony was cute and sweet. I got teary-eyed a few times, though I usually do at weddings. Nothing like a wedding to put you in a good mood. Chis BBQ’d and boy, that burger was the best one I’ve had in a very long time. All the food was great, and as usually, I ate way too much. It’s OK, I’ve cut out dessert after dinner because of timing with the antibiotics, and I think I’ve actually lost weight.
Sunday morning I did laundry and finally watched Twilight. It was pretty much what I expected. I spent most of the rest of the day hanging about, hugging my Bryan because I was too darn sleepy to do anything else. Well, somehow I managed to exercise for an hour and go food shopping, but otherwise I was a lazy bum, and it was nice. Unfortunately that meant I was also too lazy to help out someone with her PHP, sorries, but hopefully I can look at it tonight.
Bryan made pizza for dinner last night. It came out a little messy, but very yummy.

| Another Entry About Food |
[July 9th, 2009] |
|
I am hungry ALL the time. You all know that I have this obsession with food, but since I’ve been taking these antibiotics, I am definitely more preoccupied with food than usual. If I smell food, I just want to eat everything in sight. I don’t, in fact I’ve been trying to eat less to compensate for not knowing when to stop eating, but it’s terrible! This isn’t listed as a side effect of the mediation. I’m thinking it’s because the stuff is making me sleepy and sleepy –> need energy –> WANT FOOD NOW!
Meanwhile the antibiotics have NOT cleared up my acne. They’re supposed to take at least three weeks to work though and it hasn’t quite been three weeks yet. This better be worth it.
I think I finally decided on a laptop. The Dell Studio XPS 16. Still waiting another month to see if there are any good back to school sales.
Weblogic stuff is still causing major issues at work. Roy was telling us how the CC people have everything all figured out and how they were going to help us. The dude was on the call today and he’s like, well, I got some things to compile … We’re doing better than they are! It’s a little comforting really. I feel less inept. I had to write my review this week too. I had a lot to say. Gotta cut it down a little.
We went to the Poconos for the fourth, er, well, it was actually the third … Drove up with my dad’s cousins. Was fun. I fell asleep in the car though and then again before dinner. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s gotta be the antibiotics. Dinner was good. And all the leftovers I took back with me. Yummmmm. Had cherries for dessert every night this week. Except tonight, because I ate them all and there are no more :(

| Adults Should Get Summers Off Too |
[June 30th, 2009] |
|
The year is half over already. Can you believe it?? I’m getting married in six months!
The weblogic stuff is still causing issues at work. We’re going to be delivering to ST a week late. Mostly because Ruben is the one who has to fix everything and he’s on vacation the rest of the week. He didn’t want to sit next to me at the meeting yesterday. He said I was gonna yell at him, lol.
The stuff the dermatologist gave me seems to be working. The antibiotic is supposed to take at least three weeks to start working, so I assume it’s the topical. I don’t think it’s a permanent cure, but hopefully my skin will stay clear until January.
Saw Rachie and Carolyn on Saturday. Had lots of fun just hangin’ out and chatting. I don’t get to see my friends enough. I miss summer vacation.

| Almost Feeding Time |
[June 21st, 2009] |

I haven’t blogged in a while. This is what happens when I blog early one week.
The weblogic stuff at work is still pretty crazy, so that’s been keeping me busy. We got a bunch of new interns and MATREX people. One of them sings. Everyone was very excited for me.
Went to my mom’s cousin’s last Saturday. I ate waaaay too much dessert and felt sick after. That’ll teach me … maybe.
Sunday I saw some of my friends. We went to Veggie Heaven for dinner. I ordered this thing with pine nuts and it was good and I want it again.
Mon-Friday, weblogic …
I should just repost my tweets. See what Twitter is doing to my blogs?? It makes us lazy bloggers.
Yesterday I went to the dermatologist. She gave me an oral antibiotic and a topical one. The oral antibiotic is supposed to come with some unpleasant side effects, but I feel fine so far. Maybe I’m a little lightheaded, but you’re not supposed to take it with food, so I can’t eat for another 15 minutes which probably has more to do with it than the pill itself. I didn’t eat much yesterday. Trying to make up for all the pigging out I’ve been doing lately. Now I want ice cream for breakfast.
The dermatologist was really nice. Didn’t keep me waiting and actually listened to me. That was a nice change. AlThe whole thing’ll costs a small fortune, but it’ll be worth it, I hope.
I’m really angry that you have to pay to get to the good videos on YogaToday.com. I was really enjoying that site. I tried some of the podcasts on youtube, but the good ones don’t have video and I had no frickin’ idea what this lady was trying to tell me to do with one of the poses. I might just buy a subscription. I think it’s a little stupid though you pay $10 a month, and then they still make you pay to download the classes to save. I realize that you could just join for a month, download all of them and be done with it, but couldn’t they make it like $1 a class instead of $3 then?
I once tried searching for Yoga torrents … won’t be doing that again.

| Strange Week |
[June 5th, 2009] |
|
So we still haven’t gotten the stuff we need from the person we’ve been waiting to get it from, but we have gotten two of the servlets working. Two down, two to go. Unfortunately, they’re going to be more difficult, but hopefully I can copy from the person we’ve been waiting on :)
We also recieved our SE CO09 assignments this week. If there’s a strike in the SE, I’ll be going to Marathon Florida. And if they strike at the same time as the other peeps, I’ll be going to two places at once! at&t has some very advanced technology. No, really, I have no idea what their plan is. They’re not sharing.
In other news, I’m a year older today! Went out to lunch with 15 of my cloest coworkers. I think our original guest list was only 11 and a few people couldn’t come. The more the merrier I say! They got me chocolate cake too :P I have the best coworkers ever!
When we got back from lunch, we learned that our boss’ boss has left, or has been forced to leave, the company. She was in charge of our whole organization of well over 100 people. We have no idea why, but we know it doesn’t have anything to do with any health related issues. No note, no call, she’s just gone. Very, very weird.
Party at my place tomorrow! Bring food!

| Busy, Busy, Busy |
[May 31st, 2009] |

I gotta find some new online friends. A good chunk of my online social circle doesn’t blog much anymore. Not that I would have time to read their blogs… Still haven’t gotten to SP’s this week, sorries.
Work was crazy this week. All this weblogic upgrade crap was supposed to be done by Thursday, but someone only finished their work that our work relied upon about an hour before COB on Friday. Not that we would have our stuff done anyway because as we are learning, it’s freaking impossible when someone doesn’t tell you what exactly you have to change. We weren’t even close to finishing. And because that someone was busy doing the weblogic stuff, he also didn’t do another part of the project my stuff depended on. Hopefully everything will get done this week. Well, we don’t really have a choice, so it better get done. Work shall be crazy this week as well.
We went to Brian’s yesterday. Played us some Apples to Apples. Got looked at like a crazy person for saying I have acne. Yeah, my skin’s actually that clear right now, woo hoo! Brian made s’mores. He didn’t know they was my favorites.
Today I need to buy stuff. Yes, buying stuff good. Helping the economy. Yup.
I’m supposed to be making a website for Adi’s dad, but it’s not going so well. I did one design and I can’t get myself to work on it anymore. I don’t want to work when I’m not at work. Web design isn’t as fun as it used to be. Well, if I got to the coding part I think it would be more fun, I kind of want to play with some ajaxy goodness. I’m so over photoshop. It takes too much effort for me to make something that looks professional. I’m not a professional person. The design I made looks good, but it’s kind of a 50’s Sci-Fi theme. As professional as one can get from me I think, but a far cry from Julia’s stuff. She’s working with me on this, so hopefully she’ll come up with something better. Oh, he also wants flash stuff. I tried using this free program, but I just got really frustrated and gave up. Adobe Flash it is not. It’s not even Macromedia Flash. I’m not spending $700 on Flash. Not worth it in the least. I hate Flash sites anyway. I use NoScript and besides that, Flash sites are usually poorly designed with annoying navigation. Stop with the Flash already. It’s 2009, we use Ajax now.

| What’s Been Keeping Me Busy? |
[May 17th, 2009] |
|
Mini vacation: We went to my aunt’s last weekend to see my cousin Melanie who’s going back to Iraq. We brought the puppies with us. Princess couldn’t stop running around for the first, oh, four hours, even though she couldn’t breathe. Poor baby had a lot of trouble with the stairs too. We clapped every time she go to the top. She got a kick outta that. It was raining Monday, so we didn’t get to do any shore stuff. I still managed to get sunburned without the beach on Sunday.

Acne: Well, either the clarisonic brush is working, the jojoba oil or both. I haven’t had a breakout on my chin since I’ve been using them. I’ve had one deep cyst for the past month, but it seems to be going away without surfacing. I have two little pimples on my cheek and little bumps on my forehead and chin that I hope will go away in the next few weeks.
Lappy: Those of you following me on twitter know that my laptop has taken a turn for the worse. It had charging issues for the past two years now, but it generally charged faster than it used the battery. Not so much anymore. I’ve been looking at new laptops, but as always, I can’t make up my mind. I get discounts on Dell and HP, but I’m a little inlove with this Sony. It’s between that, the Dell Studio 15, Dell Studio XPS 16, or HP dv6t.
I want something that’s under $1000, between 15.6″ and 16.4″ (I could live with 15.4), Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor or better, 2.0Ghz+, 3GB RAM+, 320GB of hard drive space, bluetooth, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1. I’d prefer a backlit keyboard and a TV tuner, but they’re not necessary. Anyone who recommends a Mac is getting a beating. No, really, I need a PC for work.
Credit card: I’ve been using my student Visa for the past two years which has a teeny limit and no rewards. I really needed a new card. Blue Cash from American Express came highly recommended.
Star Trek: The movie has restored my faith in the Star Trek franchise. In a mere two hours it was able to erase the trauma caused by Insurrection, Nemesis and Enterprise.
HelenaMaria: We saw them yesterday at this ice cream place near Trenton. Both they and the ice cream were very good.

| GOTO Career Services |
[May 1st, 2009] |

A quick acne update: No bad breakouts since my declaration of hate for my skin on twitter. I guess my skin heard me.
I did buy the Clarisonic brush off of ebay. I’ve been using it since Sunday. My well behaved skin seems to have more to do with the weather than the brush, but I have seen positive results already. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I spent a good amount of time the past couple of weeks doing technical interviews for the MATREX program and interns. I won’t write about the interviews because I don’t want any of them to stumble upon my blog and feel bad. I will share some good stories via email though if anyone’s interested.
It was definitely entertaining and very educational. I think the experience will definitely help me with future interviews.
Some really obvious tips I’d like to share …
There should be absolutely no spelling or grammatical errors on your resume. Have at least 2 smart people review your resume before you submit it to anyone.
Please know what’s on your resume. If you put down that you took a database class or a networking class and I ask you a simple question, you should be able to answer it. If you list a project, make sure you have something impressive to say about it. “I was sick the whole time,” is not a good answer.
If you only took an introductory programming course, you probably don’t really know C++ or Java. At the very least, you should know and understand what object oriented programming is. If you really want to be a developer, take at least one class that involves a big programming project. You pay a lot for your education, take advantage of it.
It’s OK if you have no idea how to answer a question, but if you have any clue at all, you should still try. This does not mean spitting out random nonsense. Think, then speak.
Oh, and never, EVER, suggest using GOTO. Return! I was looking for a return statement! It’s a four line function! WTF????

| Tea Tree Oil Update |
[April 17th, 2009] |
|
I think I spoke too soon about the tea tree oil. Well, to be fair, I’m breaking out pretty bad right now because of the weather, so I think it would be a lot worse without the tea tree oil. It certainly works better than anything else I’ve tried, but a cure it is not. I think I’m going to try the Clarisonic brush that has such good reviews.

| Julia Cured My Acne |
[April 11th, 2009] |
|
I’ve been using Tea Tree Oil stuff for a while now, but I hadn’t tried this until Julia recommended it: Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Blemish Touch Stick. I stopped using the benzoyl peroxide because it was doing NOTHING for my skin anymore, and started using this three days ago. The pimples I had are almost gone and I haven’t gotten any new ones. THREE DAYS. I couldn’t believe it. Nothing I’ve used has ever worked that fast before. It’s even getting rid of the red marks!
I’ve also been thinking about buying one of these Clarisonic brush things, as an alternative to getting facials, but I want to see how long the tea tree oil keeps my skin clear for. It has really good reviews all over the internet. A little expensive though.
Julia also recommended I try jojoba oil for my oily skin.
